Federally Legalized States
Although over 34 states have legalized marijuana programs, federal legalization gets tricky. With the decriminalization of marijuana, we have to consider how it's going to be taxed, banking, social justice, and so much more.

A Common Misconception
A common misconception about cannabis is that it's a "gateway drug". In reality, cannabis can be used as an exit to help patients get away from the pharmaceutical drugs, like opioids, that they have been exposed to.

Which states have medical programs?
As of February 2022, there are currently 37 states and 4 territories that allow the use of medical cannabis but that may soon change!

How much cannabis can I buy?
Wondering how much cannabis you can purchase at a time? It varies from state to state, but here in DC patients can purchase up to 8 oz every 30 days.

Can I grow cannabis at home?
Ever wondered if you can grow your own cannabis at home? Only a limited amount of states allow home growing and the number of plants that can be grown is restricted. Currently, in Louisiana home growing is not legal.
To find out which states allow home growing visit the respective state's Department of Health website.

Which states have recreational programs?
In the US, we currently have 18 states plus the District of Columbia, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Guam that have legalized recreational or adult use cannabis programs. In addition to this, another 13 states and the US Virgin Islands have decriminalized its use.
These laws are constantly changing so it is important to stay up to date with the legal use in your state.

Can I be evicted for cannabis use?
If you are renting a home, be sure to check your landlord's policy surrounding cannabis use. Most landlords respect the medical cannabis programs in the 37 states where it is legal. Federally subsidized housing considers cannabis use illegal but most state enforcers have relaxed the rules based on the medical program in that state. Always be sure to review policies first to avoid eviction.

The amount of cannabis that you can purchase varies from state to state so it is important to consult your local dispensary.
